EPIC JOURNEYS OVERVIEW

Week 1: Abraham’s Journey of Faith

Bible Connection: Genesis 12:1-7; Psalm 18:33; Hebrews 11:9

Bottom Line: When we understand who God really is, then we can trust His promises and take an epic journey of faith when He asks.

What’s That to Me? Preteens will discover that when they better understand who God is and how He keeps His promises, they can trust Him.

Week 2: A Journey About Attitude

Bible Connection: Numbers 13:1-3; 17-33; 14:1-45; Deuteronomy 6:12; Proverbs 4:23

Bottom Line: God cares about our attitude, the state of our heart. Attitude is formed by what we believe to be true.

What’s That to Me? Preteens will learn their attitude can have a huge impact on themselves and others. God wants us to guard our hearts and attitudes and remember His faithfulness

Week 3: A Journey of Leadership

Bible Connection: Nehemiah

Bottom Line: Great leaders bring people closer to God through their influence and actions.

What’s That to Me? Preteens discover why Nehemiah was a great leader—not a boss—and how his example brought others closer to God.

Week 4: A Journey of Obedience

Bible Connection: Acts 8:26-40; Jeremiah 7:23

Bottom Line: Obeying God gives us a chance us participate in His awesome plan for us and for others.

What’s That to Me? Preteens may struggle with obedience in different areas, but this lesson will help them see that their obedience and disobedience to God and others affects everyone.

SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES OVERVIEW

WEEK 1: Self-Discipline

Bottom Line: Students will understand the importance of self-discipline in a young Christian’s life. They will learn practical ways of staying motivated and disciplined even when it is hard or they don’t feel like it.

Bible: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

WEEK 2: Teamwork

Bottom Line: Even though we have different gifts, abilities, and personalities, we Christians are all on the same team and should be working together to achieve the same goals (loving God and loving others).

Bible: 1 Corinthians 12:12-32

WEEK 3: Perseverance

Bottom Line: Success in anything, whether sports or faith, does not happen overnight. It takes time, effort and most importantly, perseverance.

Bible: Philippians 3:10-14; 4:13

WEEK 4: Focus

Bottom Line: Students will reflect on what they have learned over the past three lessons as well as explore what it means to keep their eyes on the prize. What is the prize we are striving toward, and how do we attain it?

Bible: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

OVERVIEW OF DODGEBALL SERIES

To preteens, life can feel full of huge problems. But when they see things from the perspective that no matter what, there’s always a choice, problems don’t seem so overwhelming.
Preteens will discover that it’s often better to face a small problem with God’s help than to have to deal with one that’s grown out of control. They will also discover that they can trust that God puts people in our lives who can and want to help us tackle our problems.
Each week will feature a fun and different variation of the game - dodgeball!

Week 1:  Choices for Every Problem

Bottom Line: All problems come with choices. When we figure out those choices, we can overcome challenging problems.

Bible:  Genesis 39:2-6; Genesis 39:12; Genesis 39:21-23; Genesis 45:1-15; James 1:5

Week 2:  When Problems Grow

Bottom Line: Overcoming problems is easier when we face small problems before they turn into big ones.

Bible: Jonah 1; Jonah 2:1-2,10; Exodus 4; Psalm 50:15

Week 3: Problem-Solving Pals

Bottom Line: We all need the help of others to overcome problems.

Bible: Exodus 18:24-26; Proverbs 25:19; Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT)

Week 4: God Is Greater

Bottom Line: We can bring our problems to God in prayer because He cares.

Bible: Nehemiah 4, 5, 6; 1 Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6

OVERVIEW OF OVERCOMING TEMPTATION

Preteens experience temptation throughout the day, everyday. They can resist it when they recognize what it is and know that God will help them resist the things that tempt them. If they remember that God is willing to walk alongside them through temptation, they’ll feel more equipped to resist it.

Preteens know what it feels like to be tempted, but they may wonder if God really understands. But when they realize Jesus experienced it too, kids know they can trust God for help.

Preteens face long odds when it comes to beating temptation. We all do. But when they learn that God already knows we’ll mess up—and He loves us anyway—they’ll feel a life-changing power shift.

Week 1: How and Why Are We Tempted?

Bible Passages: James 1:13-18; 1 Corinthians 10:12; James 4:7

Bottom Line: Temptation is real and everywhere, BUT it is possible to resist it.

Week 2: Dealing With Overwhelming Temptations

Bible Passages: Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 22:40, Ephesians 6:10-18

Bottom Line: The battle with temptation is overwhelming and only with God can we win the battle.

Week 3: Can God Really Understand Temptation?

Bible Verses: 1 Corinthians 10:13, Matthew 4:1-11, Hebrews 2:18

Bottom Line: Because Jesus was tempted and resisted; he shows the way to resist temptation.

Week 4: God Forgives Us When We Mess Up

Bible Verses: Matthew 26:41; Romans 3:23; Romans 3:24-26; Luke 10:19

Bottom Line: God knows we are going to mess up and loves us anyway!

OVERVIEW OF IDENTITY SERIES

Every preteen is searching for identity. Many will look to their peers or pop culture to define who they are, but that never leads us to our true identity. Preteens need to be reminded that they are created in the image of God, loved and valued by God, and given a new identity through faith in Christ.
This series is designed to help preteens value how God has uniquely and wonderfully made them, how God wants to give them a new identity through Jesus, and how He has called us to show our new identity through a life of love. Knowing our true identity helps us to confidently face the trials and pressures of life.
Week 1: Made in His Image
Main Point: You are uniquely and wonderfully made by the Creator
Bible Passage: Psalm 139:13-17
Week 2: Loved & Valued
Main Point: You are more loved and valued than you can imagine
Bible Passage: 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 5:8, John 3:16, John 10:27-30
Week 3: ID in JC (or New Identity)
Main Point: My identity is based on who God says I am, not what the world says
Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:17, Acts 9, Galatians 5:22-23
Week 4: Let’s See Some ID
Main Point: The world will know my new identity by the way I love my neighbor
Bible Passage: John 13:34-35, Colossians 3:12-17, Galatians 5:13-14
